Old Fashion Recipe for Traditional Chex Party Mix
This Traditional Chex Party Mix is a long-time favorite in my family. It started in 1986 when my daughter was a college freshman. She was going to college at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Her grandparents lived in Bedford, Indiana and often sent her "care packages". This Traditional Chex Party Mix was always in those packages along with many other treats. It became a habit on her dorm wing for everyone to gather in her room to "check out Grandma's package". Sometimes some of her dorm mates would be waiting for her to get to her room as they had already seen the box from Indiana. Once she related this information to Grandma, the care packages started arriving more frequently and with a double portion of party mix. This remained a tradition for her all through her college days. Now that her grandma has gone on to Heaven, she makes the party mix with her daughters. This year when we were at her house for Christmas, there was a dish of this Traditional Chex Party Mix that she and her 10-year-old daughter had made. Give it a try. It is sure to become a tradition in your family, too.
This is a Ralston Purina Company recipe from 1986. It is cut from an old Chex cereal box.
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
1 1/4 tsps McCormick/Shiling Season-All Seasoned Salt*
4 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 2/3 cups Corn Chex cereal
2 2/3 cups Rice Chex cereal
2 2/3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
1 cup salted mixed nuts
Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Melt butter in a 15x10x2-inch roasting pan in the oven. Remove from oven. Stir the seasoned salt and Worcestersire sauce into the melted butter. Gradually add cereal and nuts, mixing until all pieces are coated. Bake 1 hour at 250 degrees. Stir mixture every 15 minutes during baking for even coating and baking.
Makes 9 cups.
*Any seasoned salt will do.
Microwave Directions: In a 4-qt bowl or 13x9x2-inch microwave safe dish, melt butter on high for 1 minute. Stir in seasoned salt and Worcestershire sauce. Gradually add cereal and nuts, mixing until all pieces are coated. Microwave on High for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring every two minutes. NOTE: A 650 microwave oven was used for these directions. For other wattage ovens, time may need to be adjusted.
Enjoy! (I hope your family will enjoy this recipe as much as mine does!)

The Story Of Hot Sauce
The hot sauce history is the history of enterprising men fired by the fiery chilly into crafting the hot sauce that is a rage among the gourmet lovers. The hot sauce history also chronicles their ventures to create ingenious hot sauce variations that grace almost every cuisine in the world.
Sauce historians have gathered information mainly from the labels on the hot sauce bottles housed in private collections. Hot sauce advertisements obtained from city directories and newspapers are other resources. Information in general is sparse, but whatever are available, points to a rich and varied hot sauce history.
The flaming hot sauce had a humble beginning in the form of cayenne sauces in Massachusetts way back in1807.
1849 is a landmark year in the history of hot sauce. The first sauce import took place in 1849 when England's Lea & Perrin's Worcestershire sauce made its way into the USA and Colonel White raised the first chronicled Tabasco chilly crop.
Colonel White prepared the world's first Tabasco sauce and advertised it. Hot sauce was now well and truly geared towards commercialization.
A variation of the hot sauce came out in 1860 when J. McCollick & Co. of New York City produced a Bird Pepper Sauce.
But the hot sauce really captured the imagination of the public with Edward McIlhenny's ripened Tabasco hot sauce in 1868.
1870 and 1906 are high watermarks in hot sauce history whence McIlhenny secured a patent on the Tabasco variety of hot sauce and the McIlhenny clan trademarked the Tabasco brand, respectively.
Hot sauce marketing broke new grounds with Chicago-based William Railton's 1877 advertisement copy for his Chilly Sauce, which positioned it as an exotic variety with medicinal benefits.
The legendary Poppie's Hotter 'n Hell Pepper Sauce had its moorings in south Louisiana under Poppie Devillier in 1893.
The success of the Tabasco hot sauce opened the floodgates to experimentation with various flavors. Thus in 1916, Charles Erath of New Orleans produced the Red Hot Creole Pepper Sauce; in 1923 Crystal Hot Sauce made its debut courtesy Baumer Foods, Louisiana; in 1941 the La Victoria Sales Company created a stir with red taco sauce, green taco sauce and enchilada sauce.
These experimentations were not confined to only the entrepreneurs. Homemakers too were dabbling their hands at hot sauces, as evident from recipes for barbecue and curry sauces found in "Mrs. Hill's New Cookbook". Hot sauce had spread like wild fire.
The hot sauce juggernaut rolled on with David Pace's picante sauce, made in 1947 and Chris Way's Dat'l Do It Sauce and Hellish Relish, in the beginning of the 1980s.
Hot sauce history says that Los Angeles leads the way when it comes to hot sauce consumption, with 3.3 million gallons consumed in 1990.
Modern hot sauce history is replete with manufacturers like Sauces & Salsas Ltd, Le Saucier, the first dedicated sauce and hot sauce retail outlet and Chi-Chi's vying to grab a share of the consumers' appetite. Hot sauce surely sells like hot cakes.

Bowhunting: Off-Season Practice
The sound of pounding hooves and breaking branches shatters the early-morning silence. A resonating crack of antler against antler startles you awake from a state of mild oblivion, sending a jolt of sensatory lighting down your spine. Slowly turning around in your stand, you struggle to witness the ferocious woodland brawl.
Momentarily screened by an endless jungle of underbrush, you see a flash of two giant silhouettes in the distance. Mud and ground clutter fly in all directions - the heat of battle ensues. As you watch in amazement, the handle of your bow becomes a helpless squeeze toy. Brief departures of reality assault your mind as you sit in agitated-silence, waiting for the climatic end.
Finally, one of the antlered-gladiators submits defeat and the two combatants part ways. As the victor continues his assault on a nearby sapling, you somehow remember the grunt tube hanging from your neck. You purse your trembling lips to the reed-end of the call and force yourself to exhale. In an attempt to imitate the guttural sounds of a rut-crazed whitetail, you nearly hyperventilate. Without hesitation, the huge buck lifts his head and struts his way towards your stand. At 18 yards, you stop the multi-tined monster with a soft whistle as you reach full draw. Lining up your 20-yard pin just below the buck's midsection, you let the string drop from your fingers - and miss!
Although the events above are completely fictitious, you probably know someone who has experienced the heartache of a missed shot. It may even be very similar to one of your own moments of despair.
I know how it feels to miss a shot. If you have hunted with archery equipment for any length of time, you probably have felt the same frustration. It's even worse when your sights are set on a trophy buck and a well-intended arrow fails to hit its mark. So, what is the solution? What can be done to avoid a psychological meltdown at the moment of truth? I believe it all starts with a serious off-season practice regimen.
Backyard Basics
The summer months provide an excellent chance to hone your archery skills. The days are long and the weather is mild and inviting. If you want to better your chances at harvesting a big buck this fall, now is the time to get motivated. Here are some basic techniques that I use to prepare for those once-in-a-lifetime shot opportunities:
One area that is critical to success is shooting form. Your ability to achieve consistent accuracy will suffer without it. There are five areas of shooting form that will be addressed:
1) Anchor Point -- Make sure you come to a full draw at the exact location every time. Choosing an "anchor point" is the first step. An anchor point is the location where your shooting hand is "anchored" each time you come to full draw. This is usually the corner of the mouth for finger-shooters or along the jaw line for release-shooters. You may adjust your anchor point to compliment your particular shooting style.
2) Stance -- How you stand while shooting a bow will dramatically affect the flight of the arrow. You should stand with a semi-open stance with your feet pointing slightly away from the face of your target - or at a 45-degree angle. If your toes point directly at the target, pulling your bow is difficult and awkward. It will also force you to shoot "around," or straight away from your body. On the other hand, if your feet are pointed too far away, the angle of aim will cause severe string-contact with your bow arm. Be conscious of your stance during practice sessions and it will soon become second nature.
3) Aim -- Aiming a bow, whether sights are used or not, requires good hand-eye coordination and a high level of concentration. To encourage pinpoint accuracy, try to "pick a spot" while choosing a point of aim. When shooting at a hay bale or similar target, focus on a certain spot rather than an "area." Continue this habit in the field when targeting your quarry. Draw a bead on an exact spot, such as a distinguishing mark or a tuft of hair. Concentrate on driving your field points and broadheads through the point of aim while on the practice range. Repetition of this exercise will train your mind to pick a spot on game animals.
4) Release -- In my opinion, the act of releasing an arrow is responsible for letting more trophy bucks walk than any other element of the shot sequence. And, it is certainly an archer's most difficult discipline to skillfully execute on a consistent basis. Once an arrow leaves the bow there is no way to stop it. Mature whitetails will usually provide only one shot opportunity. Therefore, I try to make every shot opportunity count no matter if I am driving arrow after arrow on the practice range or sitting in my favorite stand.
Experimentation with different release methods is the only way to accurately shoot a glove or finger tab. Some experts say to "roll the string" from your fingers while others say that "snapping the string," is the way to go. Trial and error will be the deciding factors.
In an attempt to prevent inconsistent arrow flight, many hunters exchange their gloves and finger tabs for a mechanical release. If this doesn't solve your particular problem, it may be deeper-rooted, such as target-panic, an ill-tuned bow or a severe case of buck fever. If you find yourself languishing in the misery of erratic arrow flight it may be in your best interest to seek professional instruction. Remember: Time spent on the practice range is the only way to develop a smooth release.
5) Follow Through -- The last part of the shot sequence requires a small amount of concentration to pull off. Finishing the shot, or "following through," will allow you to achieve higher scores on the 3D range and enjoy shorter blood trails. Many archers fail to attain consistent accuracy as a result of not developing this skill. Some flinch at the moment of release or try to watch the arrow as it flies. Both of these bad habits will cause arrows to stray off target.
The technique used to tighten groups and make double-lung shots on game animals is relatively easy to learn. Upon releasing the string, practice holding the bow steady until the arrow hits its mark. Or continue to hold your pin on target until the arrow strikes, if you use sights. You will see a dramatic increase in accuracy, if done correctly.
Mind Games
Shooting a bow requires both physical and mental self-control. I once read that it takes 80 percent mental ability and only 20 percent physical ability to shoot a bow accurately. Some believe that the mind has even more of an influence. Without an intimate knowledge of body mechanics, we tend to classify the act of shooting a bow as a physical feat more than a systematic thought process of the mind.
The mind is a complex instrument. It has the ability to perform a variety of complex tasks in milliseconds. Yet the simplest actions can become instant nightmares. Take public speaking for instance. Sometimes words and sentences flow easily from one topic to another, and then a severe case of lockjaw occurs. Why does that seem to happen at the worst possible moment? Pressure. That one word sums up why most people fail to perform in intense situations - like attempting a shot at a monster buck. So what will counteract the self-defeating effect of one's mind?
A variety of methods can assist struggling shooters, but one of the quickest and easiest to learn is "visualization." Visualization only requires a little imagination and a genuine desire to improve. Many successful archers utilize visualization techniques to train their minds. Frequently rehearsing an imaginary shot scenario from beginning to end is a popular method of visualization. The "if you can see it, you can do it" mentality exemplifies this practice. Take some time out of your day and try it for yourself. You may be surprised with the results. Heck, you may even be contacting your taxidermist at the end of the season.
As mentioned previously, well-developed hand-eye coordination is necessary to enjoy success with archery equipment. Without this ability, estimating distance, aiming and shooting would be nearly impossible. Training the mind and body to perform these tasks on demand is what separates those who score on a regular basis from those who continually collect tag soup recipes.
Judging distance is one of the most problematic aspects of shooting a bow accurately. In most cases, human error is to blame. Choosing the "wrong" pin, or simply estimating the distance incorrectly, causes the majority of missed shots.
The introduction of electronic rangefinders has eliminated much of the guesswork. But, even with these modern-day advancements, judging distance is still a challenge. Try this simple exercise for improving your ability to mentally calculate unknown distances.
Practice "guesstimating" the range to animate and inanimate objects throughout the day. Pick a "target," such as a stationary vehicle, your pet or a fence post and estimate its range. Then step it off to see how well you did. With a little practice, the ability to effectively judge distance will become less of a test.
The glaring reality of hunting with archery equipment is that missed shots happen. It seems that no one is immune to this malady. But, there is a way to reduce the frequency of your moments of humility - practice during the off-season.

Learn What Garden Lights To Get
Many of us will put together a garden so that our grounds are not dull and lifeless. It also supplies us with a place where we are able to unwind and savor the fresh air. Planting exquisite flowers, creating a pond, and placing out benches and trellises are simply one portion when making this special area. The best way to make it genuinely come alive is to use garden lights.
There are many lights that you can use and each of these will deviate in size and how they are used. When purchasing these you have to first search for something that is going to help to keep your home and grounds safe. You should have something that will aid you to see where you are walking around at night. Try to put in path lights in distinct areas and lights that cover a large area.
It is always great to have a couple of floodlights around particular parts of the garden. At night criminals like to appear and use the darkness and shadows to work their way into homes. With enough light and floodlights in the weakened areas you will discourage them from coming into your yard. These need to be designed with sensors that are tripped when someone crosses its path.
If you have an area where you like to grill out and eat than you should set up units around that area. These need to be bright enough so that you can see what you are doing - but not so much that you lose the ambience of being in the clean, night air. Stand up lights designed in the shape of lamps are the strongest to use.

What is the salary for a nanny for 4 children in San Jose, CA?
Ages 3-8. 10 hrs of care per day, 5 days a week. Using own vehicle for transportation to activities. Taking children to park, library, museum, etc. Teaching them sports and educational activities. Only light cooking, but no other household duties. Only a little bit of prior professional experience, but has two kids of her own.
The only thing I found regarding a salary of a nanny says it really depends on the parents that are paying. A live out nanny should at least get paid minimum wage and upwards of $20 per hour. Not much detailed help but gives you a rough idea. Another thing I would look into is the cost of daycare in your area- that should give you another idea of what you should be making.

Australian Women's Day Recipes
This Can Increase Your Heart Disease Risk
Salt has long gotten a bad rap when it comes to blood pressure, but new research has shown that that reducing salt in your diet might also help cut your heart disease risk and stop a cardiac event like a heart attack or stroke.
Eating a low salt diet might actually help keep your blood vessels working more efficiently. The findings appear in the latest issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
The work of a team of Australian researchers looked at the impact of salt restriction on the endothelium, the thin layer of cells lining the inside of the blood vessels that helps regulate blood flow.
Study subjects who were overweight and obese but with normal blood pressure, found that restricting the sodium in their diets improved endothelial function compared to subjects who didn't restrict dietary salt.
Healthy people should keep their salt intake to 2400 milligrams a day - about the size of a teaspoon (6 grams) of table salt.
Of course, most of us eat double this amount, even if you just use the salt shaker on your food.
Processed foods also are loaded with salt, even if they don't have a salty taste.
"We found that if we reduced the salt in the diet, we saw a direct, positive impact on blood vessels," study co-author Jennifer B. Keogh, PhD, points out.
The study involved 29 overweight and obese subjects, both men and women, who ate 3.5 grams (low salt) of salt a day or 7.5 grams (normal salt) of salt for a two-week period.
Next they had to switch to the opposite diet for the following two weeks. None of the subjects had high blood pressure at the start of the program.
While on the low salt diet, but not the normal salt diet, the subjects showed improvements in endothelial function. This diet also led to small reductions in systolic (the top number) blood pressure, though no change in the diastolic (that's the bottom one) number.
So, a low salt diet may have more benefits than just dropping blood pressure. Less salt might also have an impact on blood vessel function and provide some protective benefits to your whole cardiovascular system.
If you have cardiac risk factors or are worried about your blood pressure, eating a low salt diet might be a smart move.
If you can't make the cut all at once, gradually working to eliminate extra salt from what you eat is often a workable alternative.
Trust the American Heart Association to offer some common sense tips that will help you lower your salt intake.
- Read labels and understand the FDA guidelines for reporting salt content.
- Watch out for seasonings like soy and steak sauce, bouillon cubs, Worcestershire sauce and cooking sherry. Try lemon juice, vinegar and natural herbs and spices.
- Season or marinate meats ahead of time with onion, garlic or your favorite herbs before cooking.
- Save chicken broth from a chicken you prepare, as opposed to buying canned, powdered or bouillon cube preparations.
- Take the salt shaker off the table, and try tasty low salt recipes instead.
- Choose fresh or frozen over canned. If you do use canned foods, drain and rinse contents well before cooking. Rinse fish as well.
- Know the names used for salt on food labels, besides sodium chloride, there's sodium alginate, sodium sulfate, sodium caseinate, disodium phosphate, sodium benzoate, sodium hydroxide, monosodium glutamate (MSG) or sodium citrate.
- When you eat out, watch for descriptions in menu items such as smoked, barbecued, pickled, broth, soy sauce, teriyaki, creole sauce, marinated, cocktail sauce, tomato base, Parmesan and mustard sauces as clues to high salt content in the dish.
Watch for larger studies to help confirm the intriguing findings of this most recent Australian study on salt.
In the meantime, you've got one more reason why cutting your sodium intake might be a smart move to reduce heart disease risk and your overall health.
