Seven of the Best Irish Dishes
7. Irish Stew
Recipes for Irish stew run the length of your arm, there are thousands upon thousands of variations. Each household has a specific way of making this fine dish and each counters that their mother’s is the best. A simple rule of thumb is hock in what vegetables are lying around, just ensure you have lamb as your meat, none of this fancy beef business that some hostelries are offering up these days. A great filler on a chilly winter’s day.
6. Bacon & Cabbage
Fling the two and a heap of spuds into a large pot and boil the whole shebang together and then pour over a white sauce made up of flour, butter, milk and parsley. Oh! I’m ravenous simply writing about it.
5. Coddle
Oh my word! Coddle is mighty fine! Tasty, filling and nourishing and simple to get right. Layer the ingredients over and over again, in the largest pot you can procure and you and your lucky pals can dine as wealthy peasants! The ingredients are simply sausages, rashers, sliced onions, sliced potatoes, sausages, rashers, sliced onions, sliced potatoes, sausages, rashers, sliced onions, sliced potatoes, over and over again.
4. Supermacs Mighty Mac Meal
After a feed of porter - the Supermacs Mighty Mac Meal is the tastiest box of grub in the universe! Easy to procure, Supermac’s is Ireland’s McDonalds and it beats the socks off Ronald every time. Just follow the hordes of hungry revellers when the bars eventually stop pouring!
3. Full Irish Breakfast
A king’s feast, practically anything in the kitchen that can be fried on a massive plate surrounded by baskets of toast and pots of coffee and tea. Rashers, sausages, fried eggs, white pudding, black pudding, liver, brown soda bread, baked beans, mushrooms and the all important sole healthy tomato are heaped as high as your elbows and in you dig!
2. Abrakebabra Doner Meal
Pre-Celtic Tiger and before all the posh luxuries, exotic cuisine was brought to Ireland by the magnificently named Abrakebabra. Specialising in kebabs, the Doner is their flagship, a couple of stouts beforehand is a really great complement to this interesting meal.
1. Sweet and sour chicken balls, boiled rice and chips.
In a word - Heaven! And as Irish as Jack Charlton.

Rice Recipes Easy Healthy

Simple recipes?
My brother has been complaining to my mom about making the same food all the time. Do you know any other simple yet really good recipes that are healthy?
Here are the foods we eat most of the time:
Turkey
Chicken
Steak/pork
my great grandmamas famous meatballs
salmon/redsnapper/other fishies
spegetti
noodles
dumplings
fried rice
and we usually have these foods with rice and green beans or brocolli (eww!)
i tried convincing my mom to make lasagnia (however you spell it) or healthy pizza like my pro chief aunt does but she says she wants to make something easy and something that doesnt take long to make.
please try not to give other websites with recipes.
i want your opinion.
Ok I can help you here.
My mum makes this. Its good!
Ingredients
4 Chicken Breasts
1/4 Tsp. Cracked Black Pepper
1/4 Tsp. Sea Salt
1/4 Tsp. Thyme
1/4 Tsp. Rosemary
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
4 Tbsp. Butter
Seasoning Bag
Inside seasoning bag, combine all dry spices with sugar and shake well. Add chicken breast, one at a time, and shake well until breasts are well seasoned. In a large frying pan melt butter and place chicken in pan on low heat. Fry on both sides until well browned and done.

Ok this may be a little bit harder than what you ask but its so good so please try it!!
Kebabs Recipe
1 pound ground lamb, turkey, pork, or beef
1 medium onion
1/2 C cilantro, parsley, or mint (or a combination)
1 tsp ground cumin

1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp cinnamon
salt and pepper
4 loaves of pita bread
Directions
Grate onion, either with a food processor or by hand.
Finely chop cilantro and parsley.
Mix together onion, cilantro, parsley, spices, and meat until smooth. Salt and pepper to taste. If the meat is too dry to hold together, add a few tablespoons of water.
Take a large spoonful (about 2-3 tablespoons) of meat and form into a small log, about 1 inch in diameter. Repeat until all meat is used up.
Cook the kebabs in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, turning so that they are browned on all sides, approximately 5 minutes. Kebabs can also be pressed around skewers and grilled or broiled.
Serve hot with pita bread.

Recipes Hamburger Rice

I am looking for a name or a recipe for something I had that was so delicious!?
The filling looks like hamburger, peas, rice and a little tomato taste, with some melted cheese. The outside looks like some type of batter that is baked or fried, covering the filling, and looks like it could have been baked in a muffin tin, shaped like a tall muffin. Any ideas? It may be Phillippino...I'm not sure.
The covering was not dough, but seemed like fritter batter..
Empanadillas! This is definitely what you are looking for! & they are easy to make and oh so yummy!
Goya Brand "discos" are frozen turnover dough circles ready to use in making pastelillos or empanadas de carne. They come in white or yellow dough. They are relatively inexpensive. Other brands are now popping up.The discos come in two sizes and in packages of 10 or so circles which you just have to stuff and seal. Handle these after being at room temperature for at least 20 minutes so they are soft. Or cut open one side of the package and put in the microwave on defrost for 10 - 20 seconds. You don't want to defrost them too long because they will stick together. Defrost them for 10 seconds at a time until you can separate the circles. Then let them sit at room temperature for 10 minutes or so and they are ready to handle.
Pastelillos or Empanadas, are as much fun to make as they are to eat. Flaky pastry, packed with your favorite filling, from meat to cheese to fruit paste. Enjoy as an appetizer, main dishes or even dessert.
Pastelillos de Carne
Picadillo recipe
1/2 lb. ground beef
1 tbsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. sofrito
1 packet Sazón with Coriander and Annatto
1/4 cup tomato sauce
1 tsp. minced garlic or 2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 onion, diced
1/8 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. oregano
6 large stuffed olives, diced
1 pkg Goya Discos (frozen turnover dough) Yellow or White
oil for frying 1
In a skillet, heat oil on medium.
Stir in beef and cook until browned.
Stir in remaining ingredients, except discos and frying oil. Lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until mixture thickens.
Spoon about 1 tbsp. meat mixture into middle, fold over; moisten edges and seal with a fork.
Heat 2½ inches of oil in a deep saucepan on medium. Cook empanadas in batches, turning to brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.

What can I serve with rice and peas?
I love to make (and eat!) West Indian rice n peas, but to me it's a side dish and I never know what to serve with it. What dish(es) should you serve with rice n peas? I'm particularly interested in vegetarian recipes.
I make a vegetarian curry with chickpeas, potato's, okra, and even a bit of eggplant, more West Indian style with the Caribbean style curry powder, it has mustard powder, more turmeric, allspices and chili, plus it has less cumin/coriander in it unlike indian style.

What God Intended - A Whole Food Diet
What God Intended - A Whole Food Diet
God intended for us to eat whole foods- food that are found in nature and are completely unaltered by man.Visit Here http://bbc-food-network.blogspot.com
Food that doesn't come in a box, is preservative free, and doesn't have a shelf life of 5 years.
Whole foods since they are fresh having not been processed contain more vitamins, nutrients, fiber, minerals then items that you buy out of a box or in a can.
The 9 Components of a Whole Food Diet
Fruits: Fresh fruits are wonderful especially when picked in season. Fruits with deep color are found to be the most beneficial because they contain antioxidants. Some of these fruits would include blueberries and blackberries. Other fruit varieties include: apples, avocados, grapes, melons, oranges, plums, and pomegranates. One of my favorite recipes during strawberry picking season is strawberry mash. Clean and hull your strawberries, mash with a potato masher add a tiny amount of sugar and freeze. In the middle of January I can't think of anything that tastes better. Fresh strawberries in my smoothie, pancakes, or just eating plain.
Vegetables: Vegetables are the most packed with nutrients when fresh. It's so important to get a fresh variety of vegetables and to eat those rich in color. Deep green lettuces and vegetables like beets again have a high nutrient content. A variety of vegetables include: asparagus, beets, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, and yams. Another easy recipe I love is asparagus with olive oil. Place asparagus on cookie sheet, sprinkle with olive oil and a little salt and pepper and bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
Grains: Whole grains contain more fiber, minerals, protein than refined grains (white rice, white bread). This is especially important for multiple sclerosis considering one of the pronounced symptoms/problems is constipation. A variety of grains include: brown rice, polenta, quinoa, wild rice, couscous. I suggest using a rice cooker for quick fool proof rice.
Legumes: A good source of protein and fiber they include peanuts, beans, peas, garbanzo beans, kidney, navy, pinto and black beans.
Nuts and Seeds: Nuts and Seeds are most beneficial when salt free, sugar coated, and not roasted. Raw almonds being an excellent choice for fiber, and protein.
Sweeteners: Honey can be substituted in place of white sugar and other processed sugars. Other wonderful options may include maple syrup, juice concentrate, and cane juice.
Fish: Fish is another great whole food that should be included in your diet. Fish like salmon, sardines, and trout contain the omega-3 fatty acid. Some studies suggest its importance of protecting against autoimmune diseases including multiple sclerosis.
Meat and Dairy: These items can be most healthy when not exposed to antibiotics, hormones, and other toxins. Cage free animals live a much healthier life. Check out the growing number of dairy alternatives available on the market.Visit Here http://bbc-food-network.blogspot.com

Simply Recipes Shrimp Fried Rice
Herbs, Seeds and Roots Used in Cooking Nigerian Foods
African lemon Grass: Cymbopogon citrates (Yourba: koko oba; Ibo: achara ehi; akwukuo; Efik: ikonti: Ibibio: myoyaka) Easily cultivated. Used for making tea and in some Delta pepper soups and pottages. Also a local deterrent to tsetse fly and snakes.
Afzelia Bella Bella (ibo: ule ule) The fermented leaves of this plant can be purchased from Eastern market women. They are added to boiling yam to give aroma and flavour.
Beletiention (Itsekiri) This herb is usually purchased dried and ground from women from Bendel State in the local markets. Sprinkle over palm-nut soup when cooking.
Bitter Leaf: Vernonia anyadalina (Yoruba: ewuro; Efik: etido) This large shrib, which only grows in the tropics, is botanically related to lettuce, chicory and daisies. To remove most of the bitterness in the leave, they are usually crushed and washed thoroughly. Bitter leaf is easily grown and is also readily available in the market either as fresh leaves or washed and scrubbed. It can also be dried for storage. Bitter leaf is used as a vegetable in stews, often with egusi. It gives a bitter, mildly astringent quality to the dish. It is also widely used medicinally. The life powder used in gumbos in Louisiana, U.S.A. is a herb mixture based on sassafras, which appears to have been adopted as a substitute by Africans there). Another plant used to produce the same effect as bitter leaf in many parts of the East is the climbing plant, Crongronema ratifolia (Ibo: utazi-zi).
Tea-bush and partminger The botanical family Labietae includes thyme, oregano, marjoram, sage, rosemary, lavender and others. These are pungent herbs, several of which are available and used in Nigeria. Two of the more widely popular are tea-bush and partminger. Neither of these is usually seen in the market, as they are both readily grown from seed and may even be found as weeds. If they are not available, fresh or dried thyme or basil may be substituted.
Tea-bush: Ocimum gratissimum (Yoruba: efinrin; Benin: ihiri; Efik: mfang, amana; Ibo: nchaawu; Kalabari: akeni, Kolokuma: furuegena) The fresh leaves are used in a wide variety of ways. In the Delta they are used in peper soups and pottages; in Kwara for egusi soups; in Igalla as a vegetable; and in other places, raw in salads. These leaves are widely believed to aid digestion.
In case of note bleeds, apply the crushed leaves, to stop the blood flowing.
Partminger Ocimum canum (Nigerian common name: curry leaf; American: basil, mint) Use as tea-bush.
Miscellaneous Flavourings
Dried Crayfish Dried crayfish (actually dried shrimp) is used in soups and stews mainly as a flavouring. It also provides valuable nutrients, especially protein. It is convenient to buy in bulk as dry crayfish must be picked over to remove foreign objects and re-dried in the sun or a 2250F, 1100C oven. Small dried crayfish are usually used ground; larger ones may be used whole, after removing the heads, tails and legs. The removed parts can be ground and added to food as well. Grinding can be done in a mortar, on a stone, in a coffee grinder or in a blender. Store whole or ground. Keep very dry in an airtight container.
Dried Okro (Hausa: nuru: Yoruba: orunla) Dried okro is sold in the market sliced or ground. It can also be prepared at home by slicing thinly and sun-drying fresh okro. When pounded or ground. It is added to soups for a flavour different from fresh okro. And for thickening.
Potash Keun and native salt are forms of potash prepared locally. They are used for flavoring and to shorten the cooking time of some foods. Some foods are changed in colour when potash is used. Kanu is sometimes used to keep palm oil from separating from the water in stews. Available in all markets.
Orange Rind, Grated Orange rind can be used in sweets to give a natural fresh flavour. Grate the outermost oily surface of the orange finely. Without including the underlying white bitter membrane. Use one teaspoon grated rind as a substitute for one teaspoon vanilla flavour in any recipe. (Lemon rind can be prepared in the same way.)
Oils and Fats
Nigeria use a wide variety of oils and fats in their cooking as ingredients for soups and stews and for frying. The most popular are palm oil and groundnut oil. The supply of both of these oils does not meet present demand. So many other cooking fats and oils are available in the local markets.
Butter Butter is important and is expensive. As it is perishable, it is sold only in shops. Butter as a table spread is an acquired taste in Nigeria: perhaps one best not acquired
Chicken Oil Coconut oil can usually be located in large urban markets and in smaller markets near its source. It is sold both as a body oil and for consumption. Try it in Jollof rice or coconut rice and use it as cooking oil in baking ( use about ten percent less oil, like animal fats. Contains mainly saturated fatty acids and becomes rancid unless stored in a cool place or an airtight container. Buy in small quantities

The agbono is very hard and is always ground before use as a flavoring and thickening in soups it gives a more or less mucilaginous ‘draw’ to the soup depending on how the dish is prepared. Before grinding the darker coloured hard – back to the nut can removes some nutrients and is not necessary. Grinding can be done in a mortar or on a stone by adding some oil. Or in a machine in the market it can also be ground in a blender or get it as fine as is usually required. It may help to chill the chopped nuts first before using a blender. Although the final product may taste slightly different, the coarsely broken agbono can be boiled in water or stew to soften before being blended and then returned to the soup (10 per cent ). The coconut milk extracted from the meat is used in baking and in rice dishes and curries. To buy fresh coconuts which feel heavy and contain plenty of milk the shells should be intact. Without cracks, and the eyes dry and free from mould. Do not buy to store for long periods unless you plan to remove the meat and dry it or freeze it. As coconuts are perishable and usually available all the year round. To open the coconut the coconut can simply be cracked on a stone or with a hammer. But loss of the water is likely. Try pounding holes in the eyes with a large nail or screwdriver and pouring the water out. The flesh can be removed directly with a knife, but this is facilitated by drying the coconut whole or in large pieces in a 400 F, 200 C oven for 10-15 minutes or placing it over a hot hearth. While still hot the coconut can then be cracked open and the flesh removed more easily from the shell in large pieces. The flesh can be dried or roasted either in large pieces or after grating. By frying gently or baking at 300 F, 150 C. constant turning and care is needed to assure even browning. There is an ‘old wives’ tale’ that a child who drinks the coconut water will be a dullard. The whole seed is fermented after being soaked in water, boiled and dried and made into a strong substance called ogiri used in preparation soups.
If cooking oil is extracted from the the seeds, the residue is also used as food (see Egbalo, Chaper 3) Egusi seeds are high in protein and oil and contain fair amounts of minerals. To buy seeds should be selected carefully to be free from discoloration and mould. They should have a pleasant nutty flavour. Egusi seeds can be ground on a stone with a little water just before use, or ground dry for storage. If they are to be stored. Grind in a mortar or a coffe grinder until fine but not pasty. The seeds may be roasted or fried (propped) before grinding. Depending. On taste. Egusi. Is best stored in the refrigerator after grinding containers at room temperature for some days. The kernels are boiled to form a paste which is then fermented. Resulting in a very strong-smelling grayish product. This is sold in the markets fresh by the spoonful or in flat dried paties, black in colour.
Oil bean seeds: Pentaclethra (common name: African oil bean : ibo: agiri) in the eastern part of Nigeria, particularly, the seeds of the African oil bean are commonly fermented and slivered for addition to pottages and stews to which they add texture, protein and oil.

Rice Cooker Recipes Mexican Rice

What are some good recipes for a rice cooker?
I got a rice cooker as a wedding gift and I would like to use it more often. Right now, I only use it to steam rice for Chinese and Mexican cooking. I would like some recipes I could use in it so I might use it more often and have a greater variety. Also, can I cook anything besides rice in it? Any ideas would be helpful Thanks!
I have a 6-cup Rival rice cooker and a 10-cup Farnerware Nutristeam system. Both have steam trays that sit on top. I would love some recipes! Thanks!
What brand is it, and how many cups? Does yours have a steaming rack/tray? I use mine frequently (especially the steaming rack/tray). If you update your post, I would be happy to post recipes I've made
For example, you can make pasta, oatmeal, pilafs, risottos, polenta, chilis, soups, porridges, puddings, etc.
