Have you ever eaten BAKED coconut shrimp? Is it as good as the fried version?

I've looked at recipes on the web and see many for baked coconut shrimp. I really would prefer not to fry since it's healthier, BUT since I'm entertaining, I want to make sure it will come out good. Weigh in with your opinion. If you're the type who enjoys healthier foods (like whole grain pasta, brown rice, etc.) please mention that. It's not that I don't trust the opinions of healthy eaters, it's just that they tend to have different tastes than the average joe.

Not but I am sure it is still pretty good. I would not consider myself a healthy eater but I do try and have been trying to do more baking and the only reason I do not bake as much as I should is because it gets so hot down here you do not want to put on the oven. As far a baked shrimp I do not think you could go wrong with that and that is something I would like to try for myself because I love the coconut shrimp but I am trying to cut down on fried foods.

Grilled Tilapia
Pinch ground cumin
Pinch cayenne pepper
Pinch paprika
Pinch kosher salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
Tilapia Salad, recipe follows
Cashew Yogurt Sauce, recipe follows

Heat the grill. Cut the fillet in 1/2 lengthwise. Lightly season the fish with the cumin, cayenne, paprika, and salt. Coat each piece in olive oil and grill, 3 to 4 minutes on each side. To plate, begin by covering a dinner plate with a layer of cashew yogurt sauce. Place the pieces of grilled tilapia in the center, overlapping one another. Top the fish with the tilapia salad and place the tangerine segments around the plate.

This recipe was provided by professional chefs and has been scaled down from a bulk recipe provided by a restaurant. The FN chefs have not tested this recipe, in the proportions indicated, and therefore, we cannot make any representation as to the results.

Tilapia Salad:
1 honey tangerine
1/2 cup watercress
1 teaspoon tangerine zest
1/8 cup raw red beets, peeled and julienned
1 tablespoon cashews, roasted

Using a sharp pairing knife, remove the skin of the tangerine. Slice the tangerine into rings and remove any seeds. Mix the watercress, tangerine zest, and beets with the cashews. Serve with the grilled tilapia and cashew yogurt sauce.

Cashew Yogurt Sauce:
3 quarts plain yogurt
6 limes, juiced
1 1/2 bunches fresh cilantro leaves
6 large garlic cloves
4 tablespoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
3 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth. Taste for seasoning.

I want to learn how to cook, where's a good place to start?

I love food (who doesn't?) and I love watching Food Network. It's gotten to the point where I'm sitting there thinking that it doesn't look all that hard (or perhaps those pros just make it look easy).

Still, I'd like to learn. It's one thing to take some pasta and sauce that you bought at the grocery and boil some water and make yourself spaghetti, but I'd like to get more into it, and eventually start making my own pastas and sauces and stuff like that. I'd also love to learn more about preparing food in general, like vegetables, fish, beef, or knowing which spices to use for what dish, stuff like that.

Are there any good websites or videos with tips and recipes and things like that that I could check out?

The pro just 'make' it look easy.

There are many websites you can pick from, but the best start is in the kitchen with you mother to pick up the food handling tips and techniques as well as knife skills.

You can read and learn a lot from a web-site or two and how to make any thing, but if you can't use a sharp knife or other utensils then you will never be a great cook.

I learned helping Mum, and that involved peeling the spuds...tons of them (I was one of eight)

I need an interesting way to prepare lobster tail?

I just found a fresh frozen lobster tail in my freezer. I'll be dining alone tonight and since I only have one lobster tail I figured I'd make myself a special dinner!

I usually broil or boil my lobster with butter and lemon. I'd like to try a different recipe. I could even chop it up and use it in a recipe, I just don't want to prepare it that the flavor of the lobster is overwhelmed by the other components in the dish.

Any ideas for a new twist on lobster that still enhances its natural flavor?

1) Cut it out of the shell, sprinkle with curry powder and salt and saute in butter. Serve with lemon and rice.

2) Cut the meat out of the shell and saute the shell, some garlic and onion with the peel and a rib of celery. Add a cup of water and a single herb, either tarragon, lemongrass or thyme. Simmer for 20 minutes.

Strain the liquid. Slice up the lobster meat and add it to the liquid and cook for one or two minute, just enough to barely cook the meat. Serve immediately.

3) Simmer the tail in salted water just until the meat is done. Add some cold water to get the temperature down and let the lobster cool in the water. When it is cool remove the meat and cut it into slices on an angle.

Make a sandwich with good bread, mayo (home made if you can), sliced cucumber and a bit of lettuce. We had this for dinner on Sunday.

I got some fresh scallops from our fisherman neighbor, what is the best way to cook it?

Do we need to rinse them? Plain water or something different? We were planning on just doing a plain broiled scallop recipe. Any suggestions? They are frozen at this point.

What Sexy forgot to tell you is you have to cook them. Pan searing is the easiest. A little salt and pepper on both sides, pan sear in olive oil on both sides so both sides have a light golden crust. They won't take long to cook. Maybe three minutes a side. Enjoy

Looking for a shrimp recipe I found in a Kraft magazine some time last year, you freeze 2/3 of it for later.?

I am pretty sure it had coconut milk in it..as well as shrimp as I said..some sort of pasta I believe..I used to have the recipe but have moved since and believe it may have been lost. The recipe was like 2 times or three times the amount of a normal meal, then you freezed the other two parts to be reheated on the stove for quick meals later. It was a really super great recipe and I'm sad I can't find it, I checked the Kraft website with no luck...Thank you!

Not sure if this is the recipe you are looking for but it sounds close. Two 13.5-ounce cans coconut milk One 14.5-ounce can chicken broth 1 tablespoon Asian fish sauce 1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic 2 teaspoons finely chopped ginger 2 teaspoons hot chili sauce Two 2-pound bags frozen, raw shrimp (31 to 40 per pound), thawed and tails removed 1 bunch cilantro, coarsely chopped 1 1/2 pounds spaghetti In a large, deep skillet, bring the coconut milk and chicken broth to a simmer over medium heat. Stir in the fish sauce, garlic, ginger, chili sauce and lime juice and cook for 2 minutes.

Stir in the shrimp and cook until just opaque, about 4 minutes. Stir in the cilantro and remove from the heat. Transfer two-thirds of the shrimp mixture to a bowl; let cool.

In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook the spaghetti until al dente; drain. Using tongs, transfer one-third of the pasta to the skillet of shrimp.

Cook one meal now: Toss the pasta with the shrimp mixture and simmer until warmed through, 1 to 2 minutes.

Freeze two meals for later: Divide the remaining shrimp mixture between 2 resealable 1-gallon freezer bags; seal. Divide the remaining spaghetti between 2 more freezer bags; let cool, then seal. Label each and freeze. THAW 1 bag each of the shrimp mixture and pasta per meal in the refrigerator overnight.

    Dietitian's tip: Though shrimp is higher in cholesterol than most meat and poultry, it's lower in fat and saturated fat. And fat, not cholesterol, has the greatest effect on blood cholesterol. Shrimp also has omega-3 fatty acids, a type of fat that's good for your heart.

    SERVES 4
    Ingredients
    1/2 pound uncooked shrimp, peeled and deveined (about 32 shrimp)
    2 tablespoons tomato paste
    1 1/2 teaspoons water
    1/2 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
    1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
    1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
    1/2 teaspoon fresh oregano, chopped

    Directions
    Rinse shrimp in cold water. Pat dry with a paper towel and set aside on a plate.

    To make the marinade, whisk together the tomato paste, water and oil in a small bowl. Add garlic, chili powder and oregano. Mix well.

    Using a brush, spread the marinade (it will be thick) on both sides of the shrimp. Place in the refrigerator.

    Prepare a hot fire in a charcoal grill or heat a gas grill or broiler (grill). Away from the heat source, lightly coat the grill rack or broiler pan with cooking spray. Position the cooking rack 4 to 6 inches from the heat source.

    Put the shrimp in a grill basket or on skewers and place on the grill. Turn the shrimp after 3 to 4 minutes. The cooking time varies depending on the heat of the fire, so watch carefully.

    Transfer to a plate and serve immediately.

    You can mist the fillets with olive oil (like a plant mister bottle) coat them in crushed cornflakes,paprika, lemon pepper a little dalt and some dill weed bake them at 350 degrees till the meat is flaky probably about 30 min.

    place fillets in shallow baking dish paint with garlic butter (add some dill to the garlic butter if you like) splash with red wine place under broiler till fillets flake with a fork. garnish with lemon slices and parsley or coursely chopped chives.
